When Poppies Played

When Poppies Played

Artist Statement:

“When Poppies Played” is about more than just flowers! The egg is a visual
representation of the first lines of a poem written by our late father, George Johnson,
which celebrates love in full bloom as two lovers set out on a shared path to their future.
In addition to traditional glass mosaic, this distinctive egg features hand-sculpted glass
clay letters, contoured fused glass, millefiori, glass frit, and glow pigments. Loaded with
depth and detail, the flowers pop during the day, and the stars shine at night!

About the Artist

Lisa Zeller, Linda Boyle

Great artwork communicates to its audience and draws them in to experience the artist’s story.  Likewise, a moving story can be enriched further through the expression of art.  Sisters Linda Boyle and Lisa Zeller were inspired by the artistry of both parents and were encouraged from an early age to share their stories verbally and visually through media.    Collectively, Linda and Lisa share over seventy years of Communications and Business Management experience.  Both have recently stepped away from the corporate grind to reconnect with their artistic passions and support several nonprofit organizations.  Linda Boyle recently founded Woodburn Street Studio, a virtual store that showcases Linda’s artwork, as well as works from the entire Johnson family.  Many media are represented through Woodburn Street Studio, including watercolor, glass and mosaics, and ceramics.  Linda currently lives with her husband Bob in Green Bay, WI, and they enjoy spending time with their two adult children and five grandchildren.    Lisa’s Zeller’s creative background includes furniture restoration, jewelry-making, stained glass, mosaics, and stonework.  Lisa and her husband Peter have raised three grown children in De Pere, WI, but Egg Harbor has always been their second home.  In addition to the art and cultural activities in Egg Harbor, Lisa enjoys boating, hiking, and exploring the outdoor activities that showcase Door County’s natural beauty.   As a testament to their parent’s inspiration, Linda and Lisa’s submitted piece “When Poppies Played” is a visual representation of a poem written by their late father, George Johnson.   The poem embraces love in its full bloom and the dreams of young lovers as they set out on the path to their future.
