Artist Statement:

Olivia McLean is a dedicated artist and art educator whose creative practice is deeply influenced by her teaching career. After earning a Master of Arts in Teaching from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Olivia began teaching art to K-3rd grade students in Northfield, Illinois. Her passion for education extends into her personal art, where she incorporates patterns, mixed media, illustration, and realism into her work.

A champion of sustainability, Olivia frequently uses recycled materials in her projects, blending fragments from previous creations into new works. This cyclical approach reflects her belief that every finished piece can inspire the next. Olivia’s work often explores themes of nature and place, influenced by her Chicago upbringing and summers spent hiking, biking, and teaching art camps in Door County, Wisconsin.

For EGGstravaganza 2025, Olivia has drawn inspiration from Wisconsin's geology, creating patterns that feature the state’s unique rocks, gems, and minerals, including Galena, Azurite, Malachite, and Red Granite. Her art celebrates the natural beauty of Wisconsin while connecting with her lifelong love of teaching and creative exploration.
