14. Pisanka II

Artist:
Annella Platta
Artist Statement:
My art is a reflection of my fascination with the centuries-old Polish folk art of pisanki and my deep sense of pride for my Polish heritage. I delight in the fluidity and naturally calligraphic strokes of the traditional wax-resist method of egg decorating with a pinhead stylus.
Inspired by nature, many of my designs are often vibrantly floral, symmetrical and intricate. My creative process is intuitive and somewhat spontaneous in that I enjoy the impromptu designing that isn't fully revealed until the final stages of completion. By creating work that is visually pleasing and timeless I desire to share with others one of Poland's many beautiful art forms. The egg design "Pisanka II" is in the style of my Pisanki art —the Polish tradition of decorating and dying hollowed eggs using a wax-resist method to create unique, hand painted ornaments. However, to be suitable for the outdoor environment, exterior paints have been used for durability.
