Inner Galaxy

Inner Galaxy

Artist Statement:

"Inner Galaxy" is a multifaceted, contemplative art piece representing the spiral journey of mind, body, and spirit. Each color symbolizes a phase—blue/purple for thought, green for emotion, yellow/orange for creation. Gold reflects divine enlightenment, silver the moon’s intuition, and copper the grounding force of Earth. Three lotus flowers anchor the spirals in purity and peace. This 500-hour creation invites reflection, guiding viewers inward toward their own inner truth.

About the Artist

Angela Lensch & Cynthia Board

Angela Lensch and Cynthia Board are artists who see beauty and creative potential in everyday life, inspiring others to rediscover their own inner light and artistic expression. Their journeys, both personal and artistic, mirror the transformative nature of their chosen medium: mosaics. Much like mosaics themselves, which piece together fragments to create something new and breathtaking, Angela and Cynthia find purpose and healing in reshaping what once was into something extraordinary.  The two Door County artists first crossed paths in 2011 when they collaborated with other local talents to create Sunset Melody, a striking mosaic and steel sculpture now displayed at the Peg Egan Performing Arts Center in Egg Harbor. It was during this project that Angela was introduced to the art of mosaics under Cynthia’s guidance. Their connection deepened in the winter of 2014 when they reunited in Cynthia’s serene studio nestled in the woods of Juddville, Wisconsin. Together, they worked on mosaic eggs for the inaugural Eggstravaganza, sparking an annual tradition of collaborative winters filled with artistic exploration.  Cynthia’s journey with mosaics began on September 11, 2001, when she took her first mosaic class—a symbolic act of transforming brokenness into beauty. Angela, on the other hand, earned her BFA in Sculpture and Furniture from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2002, laying the foundation for a life dedicated to creative expression. Both have found endless inspiration in Door County, where they live and create.  Cynthia’s mosaics are showcased at Off the Wheel Pottery in Egg Harbor, while Angela’s kinetic sculptures, mosaics, and sculptural jewelry can be found at the Angela Lensch Gallery. Opened in 2014 in a restored log home in Egg Harbor, Angela’s gallery offers visitors a unique glimpse into her artistry and that of other local creatives.  This year, Angela and Cynthia are thrilled to collaborate once more, bringing their shared vision to life through their mosaic egg, Inner Galaxy. Together, they embody the essence of mosaics—melding pieces of the past with the present to create something timeless and deeply meaningful.
