Don’t Ovoid Egg Harbor

Artist Statement:
Egg Harbor is a hidden gem in Door County that’s got a bit of everything: small-town charm, gorgeous waterfront views, and a vibrant arts and food scene. My favorite spots are captured in the panels of copper repoussé - Sunset at Bay View Terrace, Vibrant Main St, and Moonlight Over the Marina. The copper is painted with enamels and finished with an all-weather glaze. Where does Door County start? For me, my love of Door County is rooted in Egg Harbor. With this egg creation, I hope people Don’t “Ovoid” Egg Harbor.

About the Artist
Kandy Otto
Kanella (Kandy) Otto is an artist who specializes in creating beautiful works of art that reflect the nature around us. Kandy's unique process involves working with copper, which she manipulates to create shapes and textures before applying natural patinas to bring out the details. Each piece reacts differently to the patinas, adding excitement and unpredictability to the process. She then applies oil glazes and utilizes mark-making tools to add layers of color and textures that respond to changes in light to create a dynamic effect.
Kandy's art is heavily influenced by her love of nature and her belief in the Divine Artist who created it. She hopes that her works will inspire viewers to reflect on the beauty and truth of the natural world. Her art is also influenced by her favorite books, music, and visuals that reflect that which is "true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, and praiseworthy." Kandy's art has been displayed at various galleries and exhibits in Door County and Green Bay, where it has been well received by viewers. In addition to her work with copper, she also enjoys working in pastels to create scenes of Door County. Both mediums are displayed here at Woodwalk Gallery and in Get Real Café – Sturgeon Bay. Overall, Kandy's art is a testament to her dedication, passion, and skill as an artist, and a reflection of the beauty and wonder of the world around us.
