Barn Door Sunset

Artist Statement:
“I created Barn Door Sunset with acrylic paints. The inspiration for my egg is the often-overlooked countryside of Door County. Everyone rushes to see the sunsets over the water here, but the inland sunsets are just as breathtaking and beautiful. My favorite part of the sunset is just at that moment when there’s still color, but the night sky is closing in and everything is cast into shadows or silhouettes. I hope my egg inspires you to check out and explore more of Door County’s beauty. “

About the Artist
Kimberly Eisch-Wood
Kimberly Eisch-Wood grew up in the Appleton area but started enjoying Door County at an early age when her family would camp here every summer. Kimberly started working summers in Door County when she was 20 and became a full-time resident 2 years later. Since then, she has worked many jobs throughout the county and became a Certified Tourism Ambassador. 2025 marks her 11 th year being a CTA! She enjoys sharing her love of Door County with many others. While Kimberly does create art, she has never considered herself an artist. She always had a love of drawing and creating since she was a young child. Art class was an obvious must throughout school; sometimes taking more than one class a semester. Pencil and charcoal had always been her usual choice of medium, since she was most comfortable with it. When she first moved to Door County it was not just to work but to take classes at the Peninsula School of Art as well. She took a class that made her fall in love with colored pencil-which is what she mostly uses today. 6 years ago, she wrote and illustrated a children’s book about one of her horses using bright colors with her new go-to medium. She started dabbling with acrylic art in 2020; painting on small plastic horses. In 2024, she stepped completely out of her normal creative mind (which usually revolves around anything horses) and created a painted bass for the Sturgeon Bay Street Art Project. She really enjoyed creating her piece but considers herself very much a novice; so, her painting technique is still very simplistic. Kimberly also enjoys doing photography, creating one of kind crafts and participating in craft shows. She also enjoys camping and horseback riding. And, enjoying Sunday drives and following rustic roads with her husband.
